Bio pharmazeutika werden are drugs which are created from living cells and are used to treat a range of diseases and conditions. They are the most recent generation of drugs and their development requires a variety of technical skills. They can be made from a wide range of sources such as human and pig cells as well, as plant cells. Gene technology is also employed to make them.

Biopharmazeutika is produced using living organisms like yeasts and bacteria. They can also be made using cell extracts, like fibroblasts, and animal cells. The advantage of this type of medicine is that it can be produced faster than traditional medications and they can be tailored to the molecular and genetic particulars of each patient, known as personalised medicine.

Contrary to traditional pharmaceuticals, which generally affect the body as a whole biopharmazeutika can interact with specific cells. This means they are able to treat specific cancers and other conditions more effectively than conventional medications. Examples include monoklonale Antikorper and Rituximab which is used to treat rheumatoid joint and some forms of breast cancer by binding specifically to the HER2 cell molecule and stop them from growing. Immunotherapies, including vaccines, also fall under this category since they stimulate the immune systems to develop antibodies against certain diseases.
